Anaheim, CA, October 18 – Nearly all office workers have experienced this at one time or another: they would get caught typing while talking on the phone. The culprit? The hard plastic keys of the keyboard make enough noise to be heard on the other end of the line. A computer store in Anaheim, CA, has a solution: a soft keyboard.

The company specializes in laptops and laptop accessories. The idea for the foldable keyboard came from people who, while on the road, desired a full-sized keyboard. Mike Shuster is one of their customers: “I looked everywhere for such a thing. I own a Toshiba Libretto. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen those things, but they are so small you can barely type”. External keyboards had been made before, but they were bulky and big, hard to carry on the road. That defeated the purpose. Entered the foldable keyboard.

The soft plastic keyboard weighs only 7.5 ounces (220 grams), and can be rolled to the size of a pair of socks. It is very portable. And … quiet. The soft plastic absorbs the noise. Says Mitch Anderson, owner of the company: “I wouldn’t have thought that people are looking for such a thing. But they are. We have fulfilled another market need”. The product retails for only $29.
