The keyboard revolution -Working with a keyboard in a relaxed Yoga-posture

by Anonymous

The Netherlands, Groenlo April 30, 2004 -- Everyone today will agree that a posture with the palms of the hands turned downward in order to work on a keyboard will place a lot more stress on the muscles of the arms as well as the shoulders and neck. While reading a book about the scientific background of yoga, the explanation came to mind that the lotus posture is very good for a relaxed work position. By turning the palms of the hands upwards and resting the hands on your lap, one automatically sits up straight. The head is held directly over the spinal cord and prevents unconscious muscle tension in the neck and shoulder. This allows the yogi (the masters in yoga) to sit in this position for hours without any trace of fatigue.

The globally patented keyboard invention is based on the above mentioned observation. It is revolutionary in reducing RSI related complaints. The concept is simple yet very effective. The best analogy for the posture while working on this keyboard would be like that while holding a book. The hands and fingers are positioned on the outside (the operating side of the keyboard where the keys are), while looking at the inside (the verification side of the key functions).

While working with the YogiTypeTM keyboard the palms face each other, and the hands as well as the wrists are supported/ rested on movable supports that move with the hands while typing. With these movable supports unnecessary work by the muscles of the hands and arms is eliminated. By adopting this posture the head is kept upright and centered over the spine while the shoulders are naturally pushed slightly backwards, keeping the spine straight. This opens the air passages to allow steady breathing and promotes a good circulation, with optimal backrest support while typing.

First reactions are often, “but how can I ever work on this keyboard!”
Research done by Professor Dr. van Galen and his team at the Dutch University of Nijmegen, shows that the adaptation to work on this vertical keyboard is remarkably fast. Touch typists are able to adapt to working with it in minutes. The scientific research demonstrates that using this revolutionary keyboard has a tremendous impact on the muscles of the lower arms in terms of relaxation and thus reduces RSI related risks to a bare minimum. Another important benefit of working in this way is not only the reduction of RSI strain but also an improvement in the total posture of the body. Consequently, users experience an ultimate comfort in working with this device.

Inventors Hans te Maarssen from Groenlo in the Netherlands and Vineet Shankar from New Delhi in India, founded Maarshan Projects in order to license the patent and conduct the marketing for this revolutionary concept. Through scientific proof they intend to make the invention known to the ‘bleeders’ of the RSI related costs. Firstly all employers and health insurance companies need to be convinced that there is now a way of working to significantly reduce both the costs and suffering related to RSI.

We are talking to all global health insurers, re-insurers, health advisers and those relevant labor conditioning institutes, who are the key opinion makers and stake holders, about a huge step forward in the battle against RSI related injuries and costs. In the end we are seeking major keyboard manufacturers and distributors to begin mainstream production and distribution of the YogiTypeTM keyboard to make the concept available and thus the benefits of this invention to all those RSI sufferers.
